Participant Equipment List
Everyone
Because of the weight and space limitation of the handcart, please only bring the items listed. Label all of your items.
Please bring the following items packed in a 5 gallon bucket with a tight lid:
- Clothing-see list below
- Gloves-helps with pulling/pushing handcart
- Sturdy plastic cup or water bottle with carrying strap
- Mess kit (Sturdy plastic plate and utensils)
- Small pocket knife
- Dish towel
- 1 small hand towel
- Toiletries (EX: Toothbrush/paste, comb, contacts/solution, deodorant, feminine hygiene lip balm etc.)
- Prescription Medication in a marked bag.
- Small flashlight
- Small size scriptures in a zip lock bag for protection
- Small picture of our prophet, President Russell M. Nelson
- Name and little information of someone from your heritage that you would like to walk in remembrance of-doesn’t have to be an actually pioneer crossing the plains.
Please bring the following items in a heavy duty plastic garbage bag:
- Sleeping bag and small pillow
- Extra blanket (if needed)
Young Men Clothing
- 2 pair pants/trousers, with suspenders or belt
- 2 or 3 pioneer type button-up shirts, long sleeves, no t-shirts
- Bandana
- Straw hat or hat with a brim - no ball caps, beanies, berets, etc.
- Well broken-in hiking or athletic shoes, and another pair of lightweight closed toe shoes
- 3 pair tube socks (to protect from thorns and chiggers)
- Appropriate underclothing
- Modest Nightwear (Be mindful of the weather and night temps)
- Jacket and/or Rain Poncho (To be determined the week of Trek as per weather conditions)
Young Women Clothing
- 2 cotton-type, ankle-length skirts or pioneer style dresses
- 2 or 3 cotton-type blouses, long sleeves, to wear with skirts, no t-shirts
- Optional Apron with pockets
- Additional under layer of clothing-ex. shorts, leggings, etc. (to be worn under skirts, dresses)
- Bonnet or straw hat with a draw string
- Well broken-in hiking or athletic shoes, and another pair of lightweight closed toe shoe.
- 3 pair tube socks (to protect from thorns and chiggers)
- Appropriate underclothing
- Modest nightwear (Be mindful of weather and night temps)
- Jacket and/or Rain Poncho (To be determined the week of Trek as per weather conditions)
PLEASE DO NOT BRING:
- Valuables including cash, jewelry, or watches
- Electronics of any kind including cameras, cell phones, MP3 players, Ipads, Ipods, game players or radios.
- Extra food or drink
The following will be provided:
- Sun block
- Insect repellent
- First Aid Supplies
- Toilet Paper
- Food, drinks, snacks
- Camera for each family
